I thought it might be helpful to post some of the resource material that is currently in my office library. I find these books and magazines to be essential both in inspiration and technical knowhow. Without further ado, on with the show!
Skin, The Complete Guide to Digitally Lighting, Photographing, and Retouching Faces and Bodies– Really great book that covers skin retouching to the nines!
Surreal Digital Photography– Decent book for inspiration which includes “how-to” pics.
The Lighting Cookbook for Fashion and Beauty Photography– Good intro into the world of beauty lighting.
Photographing People, Portraits, Fashion, Glamour– Really great book with lighting diagrams and examples!
Master Lighting Guide– Nice book showing the ins and outs of lighting with modifiers, along with pictures explaining such.
The DAM book– Fantastic book on Digital Asset Management.
Photographer’s Market Guide to Building your Photoraphy Business– Just like it sounds, a decent book on building your own photography business.
Best Business Practices for Photographers– John Harrington’s book on what works within the business realm of photography.
The Real Business of Photography– Fantastic book on the photography business.
ASMP Professional Business Practices in Photography– ASMP’s business book, probably one of the best resources to have.
Pricing Photography: The Complete Guide to Assignment and Stock Prices– A Good reference if your stuck on how to attribute a price to your work.
Advanced Photoshop Magazine– great source for photoshop tutorials and inspiration.
The Moment it Clicks– Fantastic book from Joe McNally on his experiences in photography.
Lighting and the Dramatic Portrait: The Art of Celebrity and Editorial Photography– Michael Grecco’s book on some of his assignment work.
